Encrypt / Decrypt Text

Your text and password stay in this browser. Nothing is sent to the server.
Use a long, unique password. It cannot be recovered if lost.

How this encryption works

This tool uses authenticated AES-GCM encryption. Your password is strengthened with PBKDF2-SHA-256 using 600,000 iterations, then used only in your browser to derive the encryption key. Each encryption uses a new random salt and nonce, so encrypting the same text twice creates different encrypted results. Keep the complete result and the exact password to decrypt it later.

About Encrypt / Decrypt Text

Encrypt or decrypt text locally in your browser with password-based AES-GCM encryption.

Encrypt / Decrypt Text gives you a focused online workflow for this task, without requiring a separate desktop application. It is designed for quick, repeatable use on desktop and mobile browsers, whether you are checking a single value, preparing content, or working through a larger project.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter, paste, upload, or select the information requested above.
  2. Choose the available options that match your goal, then run the tool.
  3. Review the result and copy, download, or use it in your next step as needed.

Why a dedicated online tool helps

A focused tool keeps routine work simple: it reduces manual steps, makes the result easier to repeat, and lets you return to the same workflow whenever you need it. The page is also useful when you need a fast check before sharing work with a colleague, client, or collaborator.

Good practice

Keep a copy of your original input when it matters, review the output before publishing it, and use the result alongside your own professional judgment. Avoid entering private, confidential, or regulated information unless you are authorized to do so.

What these items mean

The values and formats used by this tool have a practical meaning beyond the result. This short guide explains what they are, what they are used for, and where they came from.

Cryptography, hashes, and passwords

Encryption protects readable data with a key, a hash creates a one-way digest for checking data, and password-hashing algorithms slow down guessing attempts. They are used for privacy, integrity checks, authentication, and digital signatures.

Cryptography is thousands of years old; modern public-key cryptography was introduced by Whitfield Diffie, Martin Hellman, and Ralph Merkle, while algorithms such as SHA and bcrypt were created by different researchers. A hash is not encryption and cannot be safely reversed like encrypted text.
